Financing road safety measures
Improving road safety requires money for investing in areas such as infrastructure, enforcement, vehicle safety and education. While investment in road safety often gives very good social returns, in practice financing can often be an obstacle to achieving road safety targets. W2Economics has the expertise in providing critical analysis of road safety financing, and in developing and researching new and innovative financing models.
We focus on questions such as:
- How is road safety currently being financed? Who is spending money on road safety (governments, road users, NGOs, companies, etc.), what is the scale of that spending, and what are available resources being used for?
- What financial models would offer potential for (additional) investment in road safety? What are best practices in other countries and how might these practices be applied elsewhere or in different contexts?
- How might more private and public parties become (more) involved in investing in road safety?
